Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery is owned and operated by Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and is maintained by the Immaculate Conception Cemetery staff of Alamogordo, NM. No activities should occur in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church without the Pastor’s knowledge and approval. The Immaculate Conception Church Cemetery staff consists of one cemetery administrator and
one cemetery worker with an occasional additional volunteer worker(s) if needed. The purpose is to create a respectful, safe atmosphere where people can remember their loved ones. To this end, certain rules and regulations are necessary for the protection of persons holding a
grave space easement and give assurance that unsightly or objectionable items can never be placed on a grave space adjacent to their own. These rules and regulations are designed for the protection of all parties involved. Their enforcement will help protect the cemetery and preserve its serenity. Everyone within the cemetery boundaries shall be subject to these rules and regulations, as well as any amendments or alterations that shall be adopted from time to time.


GRAVE SPACE PURCHASE

  • A grave space may be placed on reserved status. Only when the full purchase price is paid, will an easement be issued by Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. All payments are to be paid directly to the ICC parish office. 

  • The buyer is responsible for keeping all receipts given them as proof of payment as well as the easement itself, when paid in full. If you cannot provide proof of payment, your property may be denied. 

  • If a person holding an easement to a grave space decides there is no longer a need for said grave space, the purchaser may sell it back to the Immaculate Conception Church staff. All easement papers and receipts must be returned before the amount previously paid will be returned. 

  • All grave spaces purchased shall be subject to the rules and regulations of the cemetery now or hereafter adopted.

INTERMENTS

  • Interments shall be permitted when at least half the interment charges are paid, indicating good faith. The remaining balance of the interment charges to be paid within 90 days after burial date. Burial expenses may be included in the funeral home charges. The funeral home will then directly pay Immaculate Conception Church for all burial charges in order to make it easier for the decedent’s family.

  • The opening and closing of all graves must be opened and closed ONLY by Immaculate Conception Church Cemetery staff. 

  • An adult and an infant may be interred in the same grave space, provided not more than one casket is interred. 

  • Interment in the Baby Section is restricted to remains or cremains of children for which a casket does not exceed 48” x 14”.

  • Cremains (Cremated individuals) may be interred in any grave space in the cemetery, as provided herein:

    • Two cremains may be interred in an occupied grave space.

    • Three cremains may be interred in an unused grave.

    • An easement owner (or immediate family member) must give permission in writing, to allow cremains to be interred in their grave space.

  • Request for opening of a grave space requires at least a 48-hour notice. An additional charge will be required when request is less than 48-hour notice. Due to the cemetery staff work schedule, the preferred days for burials are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

  • A surcharge of $150.00 will be added when request is less than 48 hours.

  • Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Cemetery is not liable for damages that may occur in handling of caskets, vaults and liners, falling into an open grave, or any act of easement owners, visitors, or trespassers within the cemetery, nor for any damage caused by the elements, an act of God, common enemy, thieves, vandals or any other unavoidable accident.


FLAT MARKERS

  • Only one grave marker shall be installed on each grave space. When cremains are interreddirectly delivered to the Catholic Cemetery.“Markers” shall be considered those grave markers that are set flush with the grade of the land. “Monuments” shall be considered those grave markers that are not flush with the grade of the land. “Monuments” are allowed in the Catholic Cemetery of Immaculate Conception Church.

  • The Catholic Cemetery shall not be responsible for the loss or destruction of grave markers.

  • All markers must be installed by monument company personnel where said markers were purchased in accordance with cemetery rules; or by cemetery staff, if said markers are directly delivered to the Catholic Cemetery.

  • Only one grave marker shall be installed on each grave space. When cremains are interred in an occupied grave, a small plaque with name and date may be attached to marker at grave space. Single size markers should not exceed 24” x 14” with base not to exceed 37”. 

  • Double grave markers shall be centered between the two grave spaces it identifies. Double marker size is not to exceed 48” x 14”. Veterans Administration markers must have concrete base.

  • The Veterans Administration does not pay for installation; therefore the family is responsible for installation charges.


INSTALLATION FEES FOR MARKERS

  1. Single marker $120.00

  2. Double marker $240.00


CEMETERY FEES SCHEDULE

  • Casket – 37” wide x 8 ft. long x 6 ft. deep – Monday through Thursday

    • Grave Space $350.00 (as of July 25, 2019)

    • Opening and Closing $350.00

    • Total $700.00

 

  • Cremation – 18” x 18” x 24”deep – Monday through Thursday

    • Grave Space $350.00

    • Opening and Closing $350.00

    • Total $700.00

 

  • When cremains are interred on an occupied grave space, opening and closing will be $350.00

  • Child – Monday through Thursday

    • Grave Space $160.00

    • Opening and Closing $350.00

    • Total $510.00

 

  • Friday, Saturday and Sunday: Opening and Closing fees increase by $350.00 with 48-hour advance notice required.

DECORATION OF GRAVES

  • Graves in the Catholic Cemetery may be decorated under the following provisions for maintenance reasons and the assurance of the preservation of the cemetery.

    • Floral arrangements are to be placed at center of each side of the grave marker and away from the path of cemetery equipment ONLY.

    • No flowers will be allowed on the back of the grave marker; since they will be on someone else’s grave space.

    • The display of fresh-cut or artificial flowers are allowed at all times; however, flowers will be discarded when the arrangements are no longer attractive. 

    • The Catholic Cemetery accepts no responsibility for flowers or any other objects placed at the cemetery. 

  • A United States flag may be displayed on those days and occasions when it is customary to do so. At the expiration of three (3) days, the Catholic Cemetery staff may remove such flags without any liability for their safe keeping. Flags will be removed if no longer attractive, due to lack of respect.

  • The use of rocks, metal, glass jars, baskets or containers other than the invertible-type flower vases are not permitted, as they may damage cemetery equipment and injure cemetery staff. NO CANDLES ARE ALLOWED due to the fact that they will melt and leave unsightly oil marks that cannot be removed.

  • Concrete slabs or any other borders used to mark a grave space in the cemetery or for any other purpose is strictly prohibited. Digging holes is also strictly prohibited. 

  • No person shall plant or place in any portion of the cemetery any tree, plant, shrub, vine or flowers without the cemetery caretaker’s permission and instructions.

  • Statues of angels, saints, crosses, figurines, toys, etc. placed on a grave marker are allowed only if it remains on grave markers. Items that interfere with mowing and/or weed-eating around a grave marker or grave space will be removed. We reserve the right to remove all broken or unsightly items.

  • The Immaculate Conception Cemetery staff has the authority to remove any objectionable items or articles that may have been placed on grave spaces contrary to the rules and regulations of the cemetery. Items such as liquor bottles, beer cans or any other objectionable items of that nature will be removed from the grave space.

  • IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH CEMETERY SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR LOST, MISPLACED OR BROKEN FLOWERS, ORNAMENTS, VASES, CONTAINERS, ETC.

  • IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CEMETERY RESERVES THE RIGHT TO ENLARGE, REPLACE OR CHANGE THE BOUNDARIES OF GRADING OF THE CEMETERY OR ANY SECTION THEREOF, INCLUDING THE RIGHT TO MODIFY OR CHANGE THE LOCATION OF, REMOVE OR RE-GRADE ROADS, DRIVES AND OR WALKS OR ANY PART THEREOF, AND TO LAY, MAINTAIN, OPERATE, ALTER OR CHANGE PIPELINES, SPRINKLER AND/OR DRAINAGE SYSTEMS. THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CEMETERY RESERVES THE RIGHT TO USE AND PLACE TREES, SHRUBS, FEATURES, MONUMENTS AND WORKS OF ART ON PORTIONS OF THE CEMETERY NOT SOLD TO INDIVIDUAL LOT OWNERS. IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CATHOLIC CEMETERY RESERVES UNTO ITSELF A PERPETUAL RIGHT TO INGRESS OR EGRESS OVER GRAVES, GRAVE SPACES AND LOTS FOR PURPOSE OF MAINTENANCE AND FOR ANY AND ALL LAWFUL PURPOSES. 

  • IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CATHOLIC CEMETERY MAY AMEND, ALTER, REPEAL OR ADOPT NEW RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CATHOLIC CEMETERY AT ANY TIME. 

  • There will be NO DISINTERMENTS, except as those determined by a Court of Law in the State of New Mexico. At that point, the remains will be removed by a funeral home with proper licensing and certification. Cemetery staff WILL NOT; under any circumstances, remove any remains from Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery.

These Guidelines, rules and regulations shall be enforced by the Immaculate Conception Church and cemetery staff. The Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery is located at 1316 First Street, Alamogordo, NM 88310
